Leave of Absence

When you need extended time away from work for a medical condition, growing your family, military service or another qualifying reason, Frontdoor offers several types of leaves of absence to support you.

Your benefit details

If you expect to be unable to work for more than five days, notify your manager, notify the LOA team (Benefits@frontdoor.com) and start a claim with Prudential’s LOA administration program as soon as possible. If you are scheduled by Workforce Management, please notify them of your absence as well. Prudential will help you understand your leave options and guide you through the process. You’ll stay in touch with your manager and Prudential while on leave and as you prepare to return to work.

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Frontdoor provides unpaid, job-protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA). This allows you to take time away from work to care for your own or a family member’s medical needs. Leave can be taken continuously or intermittently.

Eligibility

You are eligible for FMLA leave if you have:

  • Been employed for at least 12 months or 52 weeks
  • Worked at least 1,250 hours during the 12 months immediately before the leave date

Eligible associates may take up to 12 weeks of leave, or 26 weeks for military caregiver leave, within the relevant 12-month period.

Reasons for leave
  • You can’t work due to pregnancy, prenatal medical care or childbirth.
  • Your child is born or placed with you for adoption or foster care. Leave can occur within one year of the child’s birth or placement.
  • You need to care for a child, spouse or parent’s serious health condition.
  • You have a serious health condition that impacts your ability to do your job.
  • Your spouse, son, daughter or parent who is a military member is called or ordered to an active-duty status (or has been notified of an impending call or order to active duty).

    • If caring for a qualified family member, their relation to you
  3. If you are scheduled through Workforce Management (WFM), you must also notify WFM.
Requirements
  • You must give 30 days advance notice for a foreseeable FMLA leave when it is practical and possible to do so. If you don’t give advance notice, your leave may be delayed until 30 days after the date you provide notice.
  • For unforeseeable leaves, you must provide notice no later than two business days after the need for leave arises.
  • If you take leave due to your own medical condition, you must provide a medical release from your healthcare before returning to work. You cannot return to work without a medical release notice.
How it works at Frontdoor

FMLA is an unpaid federal leave. However, you can utilize PTO and short-term disability where applicable to help supplement any loss of income. You may also be eligible for Frontdoor Paid Parental Leave, depending on your FMLA reason.

Personal Medical Leave of Absence

Frontdoor provides unpaid leave under our Personal Medical Leave of Absence (PMLOA) policy. This policy helps associates who don’t yet meet FMLA leave eligibility requirements to take care of themselves or close family members with serious medical conditions. This policy applies to U.S. salaried and hourly associates during their first year at Frontdoor.

Eligibility

You are eligible for PMLOA if you:

  • Have been employed for at least six consecutive months and less than 12 months of service
  • Have worked at least 625 hours during the six months immediately before the leave date
Reasons for leave

Eligible associates may take up to six work weeks of unpaid PMLOA during their first year of employment for one (or a combination) of the following reasons:

  • Pregnancy, prenatal medical care or childbirth
  • Your child is born or placed with you for adoption or foster care (you must complete the leave within six months of the child’s birth or placement).
  • Caring for your child, spouse or parent, if that child, spouse or parent has a serious health condition
  • Caring for your own serious health condition that makes you unable to perform the essential functions of your job
  • Your spouse, son, daughter or parent who is a military member is called or ordered to active-duty status (or has been notified of an impending call or order to active duty).
How to request a PMLOA
  1. Notify your people leader and copy your HR Business Partner (HRBP) immediately.
  2. Notify Prudential, our third-party leave administrator, at 877-367-7781, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central or online at prudential.com/mybenefits (opens in a new tab). Provide the following information to Prudential:

    • If caring for a qualified family member, their relation to you
  3. If you are scheduled through Workforce Management (WFM), you must also notify WFM.
Requirements
  • When the leave is foreseeable, you must give at least 30 days advance notice of the need to take PMLOA. If you do not provide 30 days advance notice, we may delay your leave until 30 days after the date you provide notice.
  • When a need for PMLOA arises less than 30 days in advance, you must provide notice no later than two business days after the need for leave arises.
  • You must provide the certification to Prudential within the timeline they provide.
  • If you request a leave due to your own serious health condition, to care for a family member with a serious health condition or for a covered veteran’s serious injury or illness, you must provide medical certification from a healthcare provider.
  • If you take leave due to your own medical condition, you cannot return to work without a medical release.

Bereavement Leave

You can take up to five days if you lose a spouse, domestic partner, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, legal guardian, in-law, foster child, grandchild or step equivalent. You may use available paid time off to attend services for those not listed as an immediate family member or to supplement the time Frontdoor provides.

If you do not have PTO available for use, time off is at management’s discretion and, if approved, may be taken as unpaid. Unpaid time off may be coordinated with your people leader and HRBP.

Eligibility

You are immediately eligible to take this leave.

How to request Bereavement Leave

Eligibility

All associates can take time off for jury duty or a court appearance. Only full-time associates are eligible to be paid for up to two weeks of jury duty (minus jury pay). You can take paid time off or receive unpaid time off for a court appearance.
